The 90s had some of the best Hip-Hop soundtracks to complement their respective movies, and were compilations that could stand on their own. From 1991 to 1994, we had New Jack City (‘91), Boyz N The Hood (‘91), Juice (‘92), Menace II Society (‘93), and Above The Rim (‘94).
In between these movies, in 1992, the writers of Back to the Future, Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, brought us Trespass, starring Ice Cube and Ice-T in an inner-city treasure hunt set in an abandoned factory in St Louis. The movie didn’t break any box office records, but it was an entertaining film nonetheless.
What was better than the movie was the 12-song soundtrack, released in tandem with the movie, featuring some underrated gems by Lord Finesse, Black Sheep, Gang Starr, WC & the MAAD Circle, DJ Quik affiliates Penthouse Playas Clique and AMG. And for the first time, Ice-T and Ice Cube linked up on a song together for the title track. They would reconnect on 2Pac’s second album for “Last Wordz.”
