Originally inspired by his Dad's almost-were 70s soft-rock pioneers Mad Anthony, Ben Schwab started out as part of LA scenesters Drugdealer and Golden Daze before settling on the rolling folk-rock style of Sylvie, taken from the Ian Matthew's track of the same name.
Blissfully reminiscent of Laurel Canyon’s rootsy collaborative scene and featuring his two close friends, Mariana Allen and Sam Burton sharing vocal duties, Sylvie was a slow burn on original release but soon came to be seen as a classic of the genre. Following release, Ben took his Sylvie collective on the road, touring multiple times in Australia and Europe, including a now-legendary set for End of The Road and followed by supports in the US with acts like Widowspeak and Jess Williamson.
Ben said at the time, “I aspire to write timeless songs I could relate to 40 years from now,” he says.“Putting my own life experiences, friends and family into them, making Sylvie has been a spiritual pursuit.”
