Sundaram, Anjan - Bad News

Hearing a blast, journalist Anjan Sundaram headed towards the sound. Grenade explosions weren’t unusual in the city of Kigali; dissidents threw them in public areas to try and destabilise the government and, since moving to Rwanda, he had observed an increasing number of them. But when he arrived, it was as though nothing had happened. The debris had been cleared away, and the police officer on duty denied any event whatsoever. There was evidence of a cover-up: an attempt to silence the media in a country whose citizens mostly lived without Internet access. It was the first of many ominous events.
