The last record before the big split (and firmly deserving of a reappraisal), Trompe le Monde is a vital, snarling yet thoroughly joyous entry in a pioneering discography bulging with jaw-dropping innovation.

And this exclusive edition has been expanded to include a black bonus 7” single featuring the unreleased tracks, ‘Brackish Boy’ & ‘Punk Loop’, the latter of which was only discovered by Kevin Vanbergen whilst he worked through all the band’s tapes. It was recorded in 1991 during the Trompe le Monde sessions, labelled simply as ‘Punk Loop’ MSTR.

Magic!

Trompe le Monde
bookended a golden run of landmark records released in quick succession that cemented Pixies as one of the best of a generation.

Translated from French to mean “fool the world”, Trompe le Monde showed the band still restless to push their sound forward. With producer Gil Norton again at the controls, their fourth album is arguably their most playful with Black Francis’s lyrics on UFOs and conspiracy theories keeping things weird while power pop creeps in to amplify the space rock established on predecessor Bossanova.

Trompe le Monde goes full throttle with 15 tracks coming in a quickfire 40-minute salvo. It proved to be the end of act one for the band with them taking over a decade before returning to stage together.

More Info:
On the Trompe le Monde Dinked International bonus 7”, Side A is ‘Brackish Boy’, known more as a Frank Black song as he recorded it again for his eponymous 1993 debut solo album. This early version has been mastered direct from the album session tape and with no post-production.

The flip side features the least conventional track of the four, ‘Punk Loop’. It was recorded in 1991 during the Trompe le Monde sessions, labelled simply as ‘Punk Loop’ MSTR.
