Born in Flames is a “dance” version of The Red Krayola’s 1983 title track for Lizzie Borden’s underground feminist sci-fi film of the same name. The Mighty Avon Jnr reimagine the original Born in Flames as dark dance-rock with nods to Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and others.

It incorporates a text by influential French experimental poet Jean-Marie Gleize and has prompted original singer Lora Logic to warmly acclaim The Mighty Avon Jnr’s version as a “brave rendition”.

Born in Flames carries The Mighty Avon Jnr torch to the next logical creative point,” says Dublin-based band ringleader Daragh McCarthy. McCarthy’s background spans work as a film director (The Stars Are Underground, The Master Musicians of Joujouka, The Ex) and the creation of videos for Vijay Iyer, The Frames and Glen Hansard. A noted musician (with 1980s cult delinquents The Babysnakes and Dublin punk legends Paranoid Visions), he is currently live bass player with enigmatic BBC Radio 6 lit-punk favourites The Prongs and pianist with Microdisney collaborator Eileen Gogan.

Produced by Daragh McCarthy and Ian McFarlane (Republic of Loose, Squarehead), Born in Flames features McCarthy on main vocals with backing from Eileen Gogan (Sean O’Hagan, Microdisney). Si Higgs from Bognor Regis' own Hoverdonkey guests on hurdy gurdy. Additionally, Molly Vulpyne (Vulpynes/Molly Vulpyne Band) contributes some backing vocals to one of the additional tracks, the more experimental and cinematic, My Heart is A Fist (mixed & remodelled by Alan O’Boyle of Dublin techno stalwarts DeCal/Legion of Two).
