‘Deadline Season’ is the first solo album by Lucy
Liebe. You might know her as a founding member
of Bokoya or have seen her live with douniah or Gianni
Brezzo. Lucy plays drums, keys, flute, trumpet,
guitar, bass and sings.
‘Deadline Season’ features AKA Kelzz, Coco Elane, garrrog, Giaa, Laíz, Pachakuti and Rosa Landers.
‘Deadline Season’ came to life after Lucy moved from Cologne to Berlin. “I was new in Berlin,” she recalls. “I knew I didn’t want to keep doing the same things I was doing in Cologne, so I became really active, texting everyone, sending out folders with beats, trying to connect. I also applied for a bunch of jobs in research with queer organizations, but none of those worked out. What did work out, though, was an album funding - and I already had a lot of music in the making. Most of the songs came together from scratch during sessions with guests I just wanted to meet up with and create something new.”
Musically, ‘Deadline Season’ is all over the place, but always on point and 100% Lucy Liebe. “I like to call it alternative R&B. Maybe that’s just a 2025 way of saying neo-soul? My jazz influences are definitely still in there.”
