The essence of the duo - formed by pianist Bill Laurance and bassist and oud player Michael League - say a lot with very little, a concept that, through two albums released to date and acclaimed concerts - has earned them a following that, for once, truly deserves
to be called ‘cult’.
Twenty years of collaboration and friendship, at its most exposed. ‘Close to Home’ is the duo in its purest form: “Simple, exposed and raw,” in their own words. You hear the musicians breathing, the strings of the loud, the mechanism of the grand piano and birdsong drifting in from the garden between the notes. Many of the pieces were written at night, between 2:00 and 5:00AM.
