Just Mustard - We Were Just Here

Our Album of the Year 2022 luminaries blasted back into our lives this year like a lit rocket filled with fuzz-strewn melody and we couldn’t be happier to welcome the return of the Dundalk five-piece! WE WERE JUST HERE sees these Resident favourites spawn out of their dark world and evolve into something brighter, leaning into euphoria.

Vocalist Katie Ball delicately decorates a woozy soundscape, gliding and drifting on a bed of confrontational, sub-induced waters, most noticeably displayed on opening track ‘POLLYANNA’ - which features a melody line that haunts you for the rest of the day after a single listen.

The record continues to spin a web of dizziness parallel to shoegaze giants My Bloody Valentine but this five-piece ensure you’re not feeling all too familiar when looking down at your footwear. WE WERE JUST HERE exhibits the perfect blend of digitally effected soundscapes with the sound of a live band playing together in a room (or perhaps a gloomy, reverberating cave). Pulsating rhythm meets churning guitars and dream-pop hooks are paired with industrial textures of indistinguishable screeching noise.

Though this record introduces a new chapter for the band, Just Mustard don’t shy from their roots. Impressively, WE WERE JUST HERE is still self-produced and still hauntingly Just Mustard at its soul.
