You’ll instantly recognise the voice. And the eccentric wonky pop song structures. JJerome87 is the moniker of Joe Newman – the British songwriter, musician and frontman we all know from the critically acclaimed Mercury Prize and Ivor Novello-winning band, alt-J.
This is his first solo outing and, although much is familiar, he recorded it in LA alongside producer, Carlos De La Gaza, a dedicated group of session musicians and a trio of female vocalists, and the resulting collection of alt-J (esque) songs have a refreshingly warm, Californian, Motown, Blues and Gospel energy.
