Inver, Derek - Human Error

‘Human Error’ is the self-published work of Brighton musician, artist and photographer Derek Inver. A carefully curated archive of artworks from personal sketchbooks kept through states of dissociation and psychosis, battles with addiction, chronic pain and the exploration of queer identity.

Though Derek’s main vehicle of expression is through music and songwriting as Route 500 and D. Inver, his artistic practices crosswire and inspire each other. Through the rendering of imaginary worlds, landscapes and distorted self-portraits, the drawings offer a fragmented insight into the creative process and the farther reaches of the human condition. Many have found their way into Derek’s music, becoming album artwork or visual counterparts to songs, while others exist solely within their own strange worlds.

Through 61 drawings spanning the last five years, ‘Human Error’ is a labour of love in the spirit of analogue revival: an intimate collection brought together for the first time as a visual record of solitude, detachment from reality and recovery.
