Elfman, Danny - Cello Concerto & Film Music (Performed by Gautier Capucon)

This world-premiere release unites elite classical artistry with Hollywood blockbuster prestige, bringing together internationally acclaimed cellist, Gautier Capuçon, and legendary composer, Danny Elfman.

The album is centred on Elfman’s Cello Concerto, written specifically for Gautier through a uniquely collaborative, director-style creative process.

Additionally, there is a collection of fresh, virtuoso cello arrangements by pianist, Jérôme Ducros, featuring Elfman’s most iconic film and television themes, including Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Simpsons, Spider-Man, and Good Will Hunting.

Elfman’s cello writing style results from a combination of his own tastes and Capuçon’s: “I like writing aggressively, but Gautier loves melody, so I’ve rooted myself around melodic instead of just rhythmic writing.” He describes his classical writing style as a “non-existent no man’s land between neo-classical and modern”, and muses about his appreciation for 20th-century Russian composers, particularly Shostakovich: “Their music exploded out of and into anywhere, and it spoke to me. I would imagine entire movies, long before I was a film composer.”
