Edwards, Terry - The Koln Concerts 2002

"In 2002, Anthony Moore - who I like to think of as "the professor of Sturm und Drang" - invited me to take part in the symposium that he curated at Kunsthochschule für Medien, Köln". "There were lectures and discussions presented over the weekend along with performances by myself, Marc Ribot, Alexander Balenescu (with and without his quartet), Kenneth Fields and Yu Hongmei. This record documents my solo performances plus duets with Marc and Alex. Initially I'd asked Marc if he'd care to join me in a version of Harlem Nocturne but he said "Terry, we both know how Harlem Nocturne goes. Why don't we improvise instead?" - so we did. Alex was game too. I've been meaning to put this out for a while and have finally been galvanised into action by the knowledge that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the somewhat more famous Köln Concert album by Keith Jarrett. Respect to both him and the promoter of that concert, Vera Brandes. Recorded live at the Stadtgarten, Köln April 18-20, 2002".
