Like a river gushing towards the ocean, the second album from the instrumental post-rock quartet known as Dog Unit tacks and meanders, slips and sloshes, propelling itself ever onward atop a platter of propulsive electronics and interweaving instruments.
The band’s music is often compared to cinema, and if debut At Home was a charming micro-budget indie flick bursting with potential, Runners is a widescreen realisation that stands up to repeat viewings. And with the addition of a string quartet, the silver screen comparisons are more apt than ever.
This is an epic. An odyssey. A ride you never want to end.
It’s more than all of that – it’s Dog Unit.
