Headed by scene originators Soft Machine and Caravan, 'Dedicated To You (But You Weren't Listening)' is the first-ever commercial release to celebrate the Canterbury Scene from its emergence during the late 60s psychedelic era to its growth and development within the soft
white underbelly of the Seventies art-rock and progressive rock movements.
The bands associated with Canterbury always maintained a slightly separate identity to their UK underground contemporaries, leavening their cerebral, muso-style prog rock/free jazz improvisation and tricky time signatures with an approach that was informed by a quintessentially middle-class English bucolicism as well as a predilection for skewed, ironic pop songs that gloried in a love of language, a self-deprecating wit and a keen sense of the absurd.
Housed in a clamshell box featuring a 48-page booklet with detailed notes and many rare photos, this 3-CD, four-hour anthology is a unique, fascinating look at a tight-knit scene that may not have enjoyed a great deal of commercial success, but nevertheless remains a much loved element of the UK 70s rock landscape.
