She’s coming for our asses!
Turning her back on niceties, the Montrealer brings a full braying wallop of curled lip snark to her heady electronics without diluting the club-pumping beats and seductive synth leads that so enamoured us to her in the first place.
For Davidson’s sixth album she’s enlisted the knob-twiddling skills of Soulwax and also those of her Essaie Pas partner Pierre Guerineau, in order to take us on a rollercoaster ride through the legitimately surveillancecapitalism-critical theme park of her mind. This ongoing fascination fuels the paranoid dancefloor antics of City of Clowns with Davidson hosting dark electronic nights of epicurean shape-throwing as if this nocturnal transgression is a bid to regain some semblance of control over a life increasingly regulated by those black oblongs we carry around with us, recording our every move.
She’s managed to achieve all of this whilst delivering an album that is absolutely loaded with futuristic sounds, brilliant melodic hooks, and the sort of drums that leave architects quaking in their boots.
