Barclay, Neil - A Brief Moment In Time

A Brief Moment in Time’ is a journey through the landscapes, places and memory of the illegal ‘orbital’ raves around the M25 during the long hot summer of 1989. The project looks at ideas of aftermath and rephotography, collaboration, the archive and constructed imagery that are woven together to create a narrative about a moment of time whose influence spread far. The work is gathered as an interpretation of that moment, through its landscapes, its archives and the ephemera of its joy. The layers of legends and memories added to our heritage that furnish an unspoken deeper understanding. Lifelong friends, photographer, Neil Barclay and archaeologist Dr Patrick Quinn came of age together at the raves of 1989 & 90 and collaborated on the research of the project. As well as tracking down the original locations of the the Raves, the project also collaborated with the archives of photographer David Swindells, who extensively documented rave and club culture in the 1980s & 90s.
