This meant taking his favorite country music tropes, dismantling and reassembling them over stretched-out, swampy grooves with New Orleans-style horns.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe was so sure of this sound, feel, and his studio band's pliability that he insisted on recording his vocal and guitar first, with no accompaniment or click track. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTodd wanted the band to record after him, so they would HAVE to follow his lead wherever it went.\u003cspan style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eIn his mind, he was attempting to write and record a double album.\u003cspan style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eHis excitement over the recordings and the push to capture that much material meant that by mid-October, Todd had recorded his vocal, guitar and the band's rhythm section for at least an album’s worth of material, with plans to continue recording.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSadly, Todd passed away before the remaining overdubs and additional songs could be completed.
